After a summer break, the new orienteering season kicked off with the LVO’s Autumn Trophy series. The first round took place on Saturday at Hillsborough Forest. It also coincided with the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival, which meant the town was very busy and parking spaces at the forest was in high demand from festival goers [read more...]

WEE 11 – SprintO at Queens

Due to a few other commitments I hadn’t raced for a number of weeks and I was looking forward to the Wednesday evening’s orienteering event. It was the penultimate WEE of 2010 and was a scary remainder how quickly this year has flown by and also how bad the summer has been so far weather-wise.

WEE 9 Castle Park, Bangor – A planners tale….

It’s amazing how time catches up with you. I had agreed to plan August’s first WEE back at the beginning of May; thinking I would have plenty of time. Suddenly last night at 9pm it was all over. WEE 9 was completed, competitors safety off home and all the kit signed-off back into the trailer. [read more...]

O-Training - Map Memory in Hillsborough Forest

Helen Baxter from LVO set up some orienteering training last night at Hillsborough Forest. Nine runners turned up for the informal session between the dark clouds and rumblings of thunder, but luckily it managed to stay dry for us. The training involved a Norwegian map memory course.
This is an exercise in which you have to [read more...]

Setanta Wicklow Rogaine - Thirteen and counting

The 13th Setanta Rogaine took place last weekend in the Wicklow Mountains. Even though this was my 5th time doing to rogaine, it was a last minute decision to give it another go. I hadn’t been back to Wicklow for a couple of years, so it was a nice excuse to get down to see [read more...]

Rogaine Report - nearly, but not quite yet......

The 13th Setanta Rogaine took place last weekend. It’s a brilliant event and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to challenge their endurance and navigation skills. It is one of those events that each team can push their own limits; whether just plog along, run it, take a few hours sleep or go for [read more...]

WEE 8 - Barnetts Park – Sometimes revenge is not always sweet

I had an old score to settle with Barnetts Park. During the 5th WEE, which also took place at Barnetts, I had a terrible time and messed up nearly every leg in same way or another. It was not a good day – Barnetts Park had simply ‘Chewed me up and spat me out’ – [read more...]
