Back in July, Bobby Smyth represented Ireland for the 2010 MTBO World Championship, held in Portugal. Bobby has put together an excellent detailed report and if you dash over to the Trailblazers MTBO website, you can read it there. Due to a few other commitments I hadn’t raced for a number of weeks and I was looking forward to the Wednesday evening’s orienteering event. It was the penultimate WEE of 2010 and was a scary remainder how quickly this year has flown by and also how bad the summer has been so far weather-wise. It’s amazing how time catches up with you. I had agreed to plan August’s first WEE back at the beginning of May; thinking I would have plenty of time. Suddenly last night at 9pm it was all over. [read more...] Helen Baxter from LVO set up some orienteering training last night at Hillsborough Forest. Nine runners turned up for the informal session between the dark clouds and rumblings of thunder, but luckily it managed to stay dry for us. The training involved a Norwegian map memory course. Currently the World MTBO Championships are taking place over in Montalegre, Portugal. Bobby Smyth is representing Ireland at the event and is being supported and cheered on by his wife and young family. Over the last few years the Explore Sweden Adventure Race has gained the reputation as being the best and longest multi-day adventure race you can do. Great news on the MTBO front is that local rider Bobby Smyth has been selected to represent Ireland at this year’s World Mountainbike Orienteering Championships in Portugal. The 13th Setanta Rogaine took place last weekend in the Wicklow Mountains. Even though this was my 5th time doing to rogaine, it was a last minute decision to give it another go.
